This position is located in the Investigation and Evaluation (I&E), Southeast Archeological Center, Tallahassee, Florida.The Center is affiliated with the Florida State University and the Anthropology Department through a cooperative agreement and is responsible for archeological research and cultural resource management activities relating to 67 National Park Service areas administered by the Service’s Southeast Field Area in eight southeastern states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The incumbent assists the Supervisor Archeologist with planning, executing, organizing, implementing and reviewing archeological activities.

ARCHEOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A.Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to GS-5 level in the Federal service, assisting with archeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis; assisting with the preparation of technical managerial and scientificreports;maintaining fieldnotes, drawings, photographs, related to the conduct of archeological fieldwork; assisting with identifying research requirements; etc.
OR
B. Have 9 semester hours or 13 quarter hours of graduate level education in anthropology or archaeology or related fields.
OR
C. Have a combination of the experience and/or education described above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Submit a Narrative Statement individually addressing how you meet each (KSA) Knowledge, Skill, and Ability. Be sure to provide specific examples of what you actually did that would demonstrate your possession of each factor. Failure to provide this information may affect your numerical score or eligibility for this position and result in non consideration for this position.
1. Knowledge (professional) of archeology and anthropology methods, theories and techniques.
2. Skill in conducting archeological field and laboratory projects according to professional standards of adequacy and accountability.
3.Knowledge of legislation, regulations executive orders related to the management of cultural resources.
4. Knowledge of archeological databases, including dBASE IV and ACCESS, and information management system.
5. Skill in written communications (e.g preparation of technical and professional reports).

The incumbents primary duties involve assisting with planning research and implementation of field and laboratory work to inventory and evaluate historic and prehistoric resources. The incumbent assists with compliance activities and oversees proofing and correcting databases resulting from Center projects. The incumbent works with parks in scheduling archeological projects to meet park management responsibilities and needs. The incumbent assists in the design of research programs to identify and evaluate significant historic and prehistoric resources in the Parks and implements the resulting plan. This includes assisting staff in conducting archeological compliance projects designed to meet park cultural resource responsibilities including: reviewing documents and making recommendations regarding archeological requirements; developing and scheduling archeological surveys for locating and evaluating cultural resources including preparing research designs and budgets; conducting archeological test excavations; analyzing artifacts; preparing reports (including maps, photographs and other graphics); assisting with laboratory activities that meet NPS, Center, and professional standards, and curating artifacts, supporting documentation and databases to National Park Service (NPS) and Center, and professional standards, and curating artifacts, supporting documentation and databases to NPS and Center standards.Incumbent assists with collection and database management resulting from Investigation and Evaluation (I&E) projects. Incumbent coordinates accession and catalog number assignment to project, transmits accurate databases to the Archeological Collection and Information Management Section (ACIMS) and assists with codebook and forms comments.
