Teacher's Aide/ Library Children's Aide
What
Description:
If you like working with kids and helping them learn, become a teacher's aide! You can work hands-on with kids in an elementary school alongside the Americorps education program. Volunteer Aides are needed during school hours -- perfect for students and retired seniors. It is also possible to assist children in the public library. Teachers aides help increase students performance in the classroom, decrease the student:teacher ratio, and provide a higher quality of education. Volunteers undergo mandated screening process. Training: Training is provided by school / library staff. Activity Type: Mentor/teacher/tutor/librarian

Program participants receive a bimonthly stipend and an educational award after the year of service.

Four major areas of service: Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Port Chester, White Plains.
