Apply to the PDI Internship Program and join the front lines of an innovative, community-based movement to increase access to health care and prevention education for low-income families, and one of the premier internship programs in the Healdsburg-Windsor-Sonoma County area. The PDI Internship Program is a formalized leadership development effort focused on training future leaders to serve low-income families in need of greater access to healthcare. While primary focus is on oral health, PDI works in conjunction with the movement for increased access to all health care. Based out of PDI’s Windsor, CA office, our Internship Program is training the leaders of tomorrow to advocate and serve, while providing a passionate and supportive working environment. Interns come from local areas as well as states across the country and other countries such as Mexico and Chile, with backgrounds ranging from undergraduate to law students, attorneys, AmeriCorps members, immigrants, migrant workers, marathon runners, artists, community liaisons, child advocates and health care professionals.
The Internship Program operates in 3 sessions/year:
• Spring Session (January-May)
• Summer Session (June-August)
• Fall Session (September-December)
For each session, 3-5 Interns are selected through a competitive application process. Applicants, ranging from undergraduate students to retired attorneys are submitted from around the world and throughout the United States. At the beginning of each session, Interns receive 10 hours of intensive training on pediatric dental decay as well program-specific training related to their particular position. Once trained, interns are integrated into the daily operations of their program and engage in meaningful projects and continuing education activities within the equal access to healthcare movement. All internships are unpaid, and most are designed as full-time positions. Since the internship program's inception in Spring 2003, 5 Interns have completed the Internship Program, many of whom have gone on to take prominent positions in healthcare reform and advocacy. You can help make a child smile!
