DETENTION AND REMOVAL ASSISTANT (OA)
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GS-5: You qualify at the GS-5 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Examples include performing a varietyof recordkeeping, reporting, and informational duties in support of a law enforcement program; compiling, maintaining, and updating automated records containing legal or law enforcement data; and responding to requests for procedural information regarding a lawenforcement program.
GS-6: You qualify at the GS-6 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Examples include performing routinefunctions (e.g., booking and record searches) associated with processing those arrested or detained by law enforcement officials; examining detention and deportation documents for completeness and accuracy and then routing them appropriately; and providing routineinformation on specific and clearly defined questions and issues regarding detention and deportation policies, practices and procedures.
GS-7: You qualify at the GS-7 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level. Examples include examining detention and deportation documents for conformance with procedures and requirements and determining appropriate action; preparing warrants of deportation and processing travel for aliens; using word processing and graphics software to prepare deportation reports andsupporting documents, using spreadsheet software to maintain deportation records, and using project management software to track the status of deportation cases; and determining the correct charges/charging parties associated with deportation and removal activities such as Notices to Appear and travel.
Educational Substitution:
GS-5: You may substitute successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-5 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college oruniversity. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience also may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-5 grade level.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship: Candidates must be United States citizens and present proof of citizenship, if selected.

Background Security Investigation: You will need to successfully complete a background investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

You will provide clerical and administrative support to the Detention and Removal Program. Specifically, you will establish and review case records of aliens who are detained by the agency; process and review officers' notes; review Program documents for completeness and accuracy; prepare and forward records to appropriate offices for removal and exclusion hearings; review and analyze case files to determine appropriate action; access database systems to retrieve and input information; perform a variety of technical and clerical dutiesassociating with arranging the physical removal of aliens including the preparation and delivery of documents, making travel arrangements, and determining appropriate payment of expenses; screen calls and visitors and provide them with basic Program information; maintain and review deportation docket files and systems; and use office automation tools to create spreadsheets, reports and other documents from databases.
